Pope Shenouda III is the current Supreme Patriarch and primate of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Egypt. He was enthroned on January 6, 2013. He was born in Egypt on June 6, 1943. His parents were originally from Lebanon
He was ordained a priest of the Coptic Orthodox Church in 1964 at Tanta, Egypt, after having completed his elementary studies. His first assignment was in the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist in Tanta. On November 15, 1973, he was consecrated bishop of El Minya, Egypt with Paul Helmy as his assistant bishop.
